Batata Ambado

Batata  Ambado   (similar to Potato Bonda)

Batata      ambado is an inevitable item served for Snacks during Konkani functions like wedding, Upanayanam etc.  It is very much similar to Potato Bonda but differs in taste and flavor.  I learnt this from  my Ammamma.  She used to prepare this mostly for breakfast as a combination to coconut rice(Nuchi).   She used to prepare the best Ambado  I ever had in my life

Ingredients

 Potato                                      ½ kg (boiled)
Green chilly                               8 to 10 (according to your  taste)
Grated coconut                         2  Tbsp
Coriander leaves                       2 tbsp chopped
Curry leaves                              few
Mustard seeds                          1 tsp
Hing (kayam) powder               ½ tsp
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying

For batter:-

Besan (Gram flour)                   1 cup
Rice/corn flour                          1 tbsp
Chilly powder                           ½ tsp
Salt

Method
Smash the boiled potatoes, mince the green chilly and add to the potatoes,  add chopped coriander leaves  then add grated coconut and salt mix it well.  Heat little oil in kadai  and season with mustard seeds, curry leaves and kayam (hing).  Pour this on potate mixture and mix well.  Make small balls from this and keep aside.

For batter :-  Add besan, rice flour, chilly powder and salt with water and make thick paste.  Dig the balls in this batter and deep fry them.

ready to serve hot Batata Ambado.
