Varutharacha Nhandu Curry ( crab in roasted coconut gravy)

Its  a very tasty kerala recipe...most of people avoid eating crabs because  its  a very time consuming process.  Still crab is one of the most tastiest sea food and preferred by so many.   




Ingredients


Crab                                                1 kg cut and clean
Coconut grated                              1 cup
Small onions (shallots)                   ½  cup
Red chilly                                       10
Ginger chopped                              1 tbsp
Garlic chopped                               1 tbsp
Curry leaves                                   hand full
Tamarind pulp                                1
Pepper corn                                    ½ tsp
Coriander powder                          2 tsp
Jeera powder                                 1tsp
Oil for cooking                               1tbsp
Salt   to taste

Method
Take  a vessel  and  cook the cut and cleaned   crabs  with  salt and 1 cup of water  till crab meat looks whitish  color  and keep aside.
 
 


Take one pan add half table spoon of oil when heats  add grated coconut, fry  till light brown. Then add  small onions, ginger, garlic  and  red chilly  fry till dark brown color . Then add coriander powder  and  jeera powder and pepper corns  fry for 2 to 3 min. Let it cool for sometime. Then grind into smooth paste. Then add this paste to cooked crab then let it boil in this gravy on medium heat. Check the salt and spice level. Cook it  till  gravy nicely coat the crabs. You can serve this as dry or with thick gravy.  Temper with mustard and curry leaves. Goes well with rice and  appam.
